During this presentation, Ms. Reif will provide an update on two critically important federal employment laws: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family & Medical Leave Act (FMLA). The presentation will focus on cases decided in Iowa and in other jurisdictions which provide practical insight for human resources professionals. Attendees will learn practical strategies for dealing with difficult ADA/FMLA employee issues and best practices for compliance with the two laws.
In this presentation attendees will learn about:
- Determining “essential” job functions for purposes of ADA reasonable accommodation
- Determining when to start the ADA interactive process or provide FMLA paperwork in difficult scenarios
- The intersection of the FMLA and ADA for the same health condition
- The ADA, FMLA, and “light duty” work for employees with worker’s comp injuries
