Our goal is to always identify and capture opportunities – the right opportunities – for our clients. We are focused on understanding our clients’ businesses and building strategic partnerships that allow us to go beyond providing general legal counsel and serve as strategic problem solvers.
We provide comprehensive legal services to state, national and international businesses, educational institutions and municipalities – across an array of industries.
Through the ACE (Ahlers Cooney Excellence) Program, the Firm is committed to providing an environment in which employees can prosper both professionally and personally. We have created a collegial environment to work within. This greatly benefits our clients as we leverage our collective experience and work together across practice areas. We are proud of our Midwest work ethic and passionately strive to get positive results for our clients. We also believe that family and personal enhancement are vitally important and we enjoy the quality of life Iowa provides.
To enhance our firm's culture, we have two active committees in which attorneys and staff are involved for the betterment of ourselves and our community -- Wellness Committee and Charitable Action Committee. Both of these committees are active throughout the year by sponsoring internal activities, as well as supporting various community events.
We are privileged to have some of the most distinguished attorneys in their field of practice, as well as some of the brightest, emerging young attorneys bringing new energy to the firm. Prior to Ahlers & Cooney, many of our attorneys held judicial clerkships in various Iowa and Federal trial and appellate courts, bringing a keen understanding of the court system to the Firm. Several of our attorneys have executive and legislative experience. Attorneys in the firm hold law degrees from the Cornell, Denver, Drake, Illinois, Iowa, San Diego, Valparaiso, William Mitchell, and Wisconsin law schools.
We are proud of the reputation our firm has earned in over a century of practicing law. In recognition of the quality of our services, we receive frequent referrals and requests for assistance from peers in the legal, accounting, educational, municipal and insurance professions. We conduct ourselves with personal integrity and professional courtesy towards our clients, peers, other lawyers and their clients, and the public.
Martindale-Hubbell® is the legal industry’s gold standard for Peer Review Ratings of law firms and attorneys. Our firm has for years received an AV rating, the highest to be achieved, as have many of the lawyers in the firm. An AV rating attests to a lawyer's legal ability and professional ethics, and reflects the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary. Knowing that we are recognized by our peers makes it that much more important to us. Our various practice areas have also received national recognition from a variety of sources, again ratings of distinction by our peers and clients – Chambers USA, Great Plains Super Lawyers, Best Lawyers in America and others.
Professionally, our firm’s attorneys believe it is very important to be involved and provide leadership in a diversity of organizations related to the legal profession and its different practice areas. Attorneys serve in numerous positions in local, state and national associations. Many have served as instructors for continuing legal education and other professional education programs and as adjunct professors at the university level. Firm members have published articles and other legal reference material in both state and national publications, and have presented at hundreds of seminars and conferences on a variety of legal topics.
Our firm is a member of The Harmonie Group, whose members comprise an affiliation of independent law firms practicing in all 50 states which provide a broad spectrum of legal services to corporations, insurance companies and claims administrators. The members of The Harmonie Group assist each other with legal services and support of the highest caliber.
The mission of the Ahlers and Cooney, P.C. Diversity and Inclusion Committee is to reflect a workplace environment that is as diverse as the communities and clients it proudly serves. First, by fostering an open and welcoming work environment that encourages all individuals to share their unique backgrounds and perspectives with each other without fear of judgment or reprisal. Second, by embracing our commonalities and respecting and celebrating what makes us unique. Third, by recruiting, developing and retaining outstanding people from all walks of life who are devoted to serving the needs of our increasingly diverse community.
We have structured a robust Summer Associate program and a methodical Associate Development program to ensure our young attorneys develop the skills they need for a bright future. Our expectations are that our Summer Associate program is the pipeline for new Associates, and that our Associate attorneys progress with us until their retirement from the practice of law. This history of longevity and continuity of attorneys within our firm greatly enhances our strategic partnerships with clients.
