Retirement Planning

We regularly consult with private and public clients in structuring deferred compensation arrangements to ensure compliance with complex statutory and regulatory changes to sections 403(b) (tax-sheltered annuity plans), 409A, 457(b) (eligible deferred compensation plans), and 457(f) (ineligible deferred compensation plans) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Estate Planning

Our attorneys offer clients extensive and diverse experience in working with families and their advisors to prepare and administer estate plans providing for the care and support of family members, the transfer of wealth, the transition of a family business, and the support of charities, with minimum income, estate and gift tax consequences. We listen to your family goals and values, while considering financial and tax issues. We prepare carefully tailored wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and many other instruments that will benefit our clients from an initial estate plan for a young family to sophisticated tax minimization techniques for executive benefits, family business succession, charitable giving, and multi-generational family wealth planning.

Trust & Estate Administration

We provide counsel to executors, trustees and beneficiaries during all aspects of the probate of an estate or the administration of a trust. This process involves our advising the executor or trustee with respect to gathering asset and liability information, protecting the assets, valuing the assets, preparing inventories, paying debts and expenses, resolving claims, preparing federal and state income, estate and inheritance tax returns, preparing accountings, and making distributions. Our experience also includes the resolution of income, estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax disputes, from IRS or state audit and appeals proceedings to tax litigation in state and federal courts.

Tax Advice & Planning

Our attorneys handle tax matters for clients, including public corporations, closely-held corporations, individuals, trusts and estates. We advise on structuring taxable and non-taxable acquisitions and reorganizations, in planning to minimize state and local income, sales and use, and property taxes, and on a full range of executive compensation and employee benefit tax planning. We also represent clients in connection with audits and appeals before the IRS and state departments of revenue.
