The Firm and its predecessor partnerships have been actively engaged in approving municipal bond issues in the State of Iowa for over seventy-five years, and consistently ranks nationally in the number of bond issues approved on an annual basis. Members of the Firm have been involved directly or indirectly with nearly every major legislative proposal considered by the Iowa General Assembly relating to tax-exempt bonds, municipal finance matters and public sector finance issues. The Firm regularly serves as bond counsel to many of Iowa's counties, public school districts, community colleges and the Iowa State Board of Regents.

Lawyers in the Firm have been leaders in professional organizations relating to municipal bonds for many years. Four of the Firm's lawyers have served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Bond Lawyers ("NABL"), one of whom served on the initial Board that created the organization. Another lawyer served as President of NABL during 2001-2002. Three lawyers have been inducted as Fellows of the American College of Bond Counsel, one of whom currently serves on its Board of Directors. Members of the Firm frequently serve as panelists or speakers at NABL seminars as well as those sponsored by other State-wide organizations such as the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, the Iowa Association of School Business Officials and the Iowa League of Cities.

Fourteen of the Firm's lawyers are actively involved in the approval of municipal bond issues and in matters related to tax-exempt and taxable public sector financing and other related municipal, governmental or legislative concerns. The lawyers in this area of practice issue legal opinions in all types of governmental and private activity bond financing, either as bond counsel, issuer's counsel, disclosure counsel or underwriter's counsel. The Firm's other practice areas - most notably the Local Government, Litigation and Environmental Law groups - bring complimentary experience to the bond practice and help ensure that all the needs of a public client can be met.

Lawyers in the Firm practice in all areas of public finance, including general obligation bond financings for cities, counties and public school districts; revenue bond financings for utilities and other revenue producing enterprises; tax, revenue and grant anticipation cashflow borrowings; private purpose section 501(c)(3) financings for educational and health care facilities; industrial revenue bond financing; tax increment district formation and related financings; special assessment financings; municipal lease financings; state revolving fund program and other pooled financings; community college financings including Iowa industrial new job training certificates; and other obligations issued for and on behalf of the State of Iowa by qualifying agencies, authorities and organizations.
